History of the Squadron

The Air Training Corps a a whole was formed on 5 February 1941, with most squadron being setup around this time.

Originally 2502 (Hamilton School), the Squadron opened in 1972. Being a school squadron meant that only pupils and staff from the school could join the squadron. The commanding officer at that time was Flight Lieutenant R. Royston RAF VR(T).

In the late 80's the squadron got it's own identity by becoming an OPEN squadron and then renamed 2502 (Hamilton) Squadron. This then allowed any young adult to join the squadron from anywhere in the local area without having to be a pupil at Hamilton school.

In 1995 the squadron had a new building (formally a squadron building for Corby) refurbished and put in to what is now Hamilton Community College. The current building was first build around 1968 and has now been serving two squadrons as the "ATC Hut".
